On August 29, the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) released its list of newly elected Fellows for 2026. Professor Zhao Wansheng from the Institute of Manufacturing Technology and Equipment Automation, School of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has been elected as a CIRP Fellow.

Professor Zhao Wansheng has long been engaged in the research of non-traditional machining technologies. He has obtained a series of innovative achievements in technical areas including 6-axis CNC systems and machine tools of EDM, and intelligent manufacturing systems for micro-hole making on turbine blades. He received two First-grade Awards and one Second-grade award for rrovincial science and technology advancement. He has served as Vice chairman of the Non-traditional Machining Institution of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES). He is the author of two academic monographs and three textbooks.
Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Paris, France, CIRP is the most authoritative international academic organization in mechanical engineering. It runs ten Scientific Technical Committees (STCs) covering design, precision engineering, measurement and metrology, non-traditional machining and other subjects. It also hosts Collaborative Working Groups (CWGs) covering topics such as corporate-member advisory, sustainable development, artificial intelligence in manufacturing, and ethics in manufacturing. It counts approximately 600 academic and industrial members across 50 countries and is committed to advancing cutting-edge developments in relevant fields.
